Challenge 294:
PINING
to yearn intensely and persistently especially for something unattainable

Maybe it’s for a long-lost friend or lover, someone you miss even after all this time. Maybe you’re in love with someone who doesn’t love you back, or can’t. Maybe you’ve been away from home for a long time, and you miss it. Whatever it is, you’re pining for it!

What do your characters pine for, if anything? Does it work out for them, or is their pining destined to be futile?

Write a story about pining.

BONUS GOAL: Dawn’s First Light

If your submission features sunrise, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, March 30 at 9:00PM EST.
• Post submissions as new entries using the template in the profile

Challenge 293:
ROUGH SEAS
The ocean might be beautiful, but it isn’t safe.

Maybe there’s a storm rolling in, whipping the waves into peaks that tower higher than ships while ominous clouds gather overhead. Maybe the tide’s going out, pulling the waves along the shoreline into treacherous riptides. Maybe there’s something lurking in the depths, stirring up the surface. Whatever it is, right now, the seas are rough.

How do your characters handle it? Are they skilled sailors or swimmers, risking the waves easily? Or would they rather stay on shore and watch?

Write a story about rough seas.

BONUS GOAL: “Never turn your back on the sea.”

If your submission features this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, March 23 at 9:00PM EST.

Here are the entries for this challenge:

List of entries )

Please Note: Because we only have 4 entries this week, there is only a First Place and Runner Up to vote for!

In order to vote, please reply to this post using the form provided. All comments are screened, and entries are listed in the order they were submitted. For your vote to qualify, you must fill out your entire voting card (both spots) in order to be counted. Winner votes are worth 2 points, Runner Up votes are worth 1 point. Meeting the bonus goal on an entry gets an extra point for that submission.

When voting, please copy/paste the ENTRY NUMBER and the FIC TITLE from the list above into the spot you're voting for (this prevents accidentally mis-numbering a vote and casting it for the wrong entry). It should look like this:

First Place: 61. Fic Title Here
Runner Up: 88. Another Fic Title

Please note that you cannot vote for your own entry, and that votes cannot be made anonymously. You do not have to be a member of the community in order to vote, nor have submitted an entry for this week; everyone is welcome to participate in the voting. IP addresses are logged to prevent duplicate voting.

Voting closes Wednesday, March 18 at 9:00PM EST.

Theme Prompt: #292 – daydreaming
Title: Daydreaming of Paradise
Fandom: Miami Vice (TV)
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 676
Summary: When the daily grind of being a Miami Vice cop gets to be too much, Sonny escapes in his mind. Sometimes, though, the mind can be a tricky thing when one is half asleep…
Notes: Fluff, just pure (slightly spicy) fluff. And I was lucky enough to have been a repeat visitor to the location mentioned in this fic, back in the 1980s. It was paradise.
